Approved by the FDA In June 2006 Juvederm TM is a non-surgical, injectable gel used to restore the skin’s volume and provide correction of wrinkles and nasolabial folds. From the creators of Botox Cosmetic, Juvederm is considered a “next generation” injectable: it is dermal Facial Filler made of a smooth consistency gel that is composed of cross-linked hyaluronic acid.
Approximately 15 minutes, depending upon number of injections required to correct the target areas.
Redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. Most reactions will subside in seven days or less.
Immediate results: Little to no downtime.
There is a small risk of injection (as with any injection procedure). Because of the biocompatibility of hyaluronic acid, Juvederm carries little risk of allergic reaction.
Juvederm has shown to maintain corrective results for an average of six months. Some patients have experienced a longer-lasting effect. Additional injections and touch-ups may be requested to achieve optimal correction. Because hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance, it will gradually absorb into the body.
Juvederm is offered in two formulations: Juvederm Ultra (for areas where subtle deep folds and wrinkles). Once you and your health care Professional identify the areas targeted for correction, he/she will ease Juvederm into the injection sites at the mid to deep dermis (beneath the surface of the skin). Other approved hyaluronic acid treatments are granular in nature, but the smooth consistency of Juvederm allows injection to be administered with relative ease.
